🟢MTP1
SS7 MTP1 Layer
The MTP1 (Message Transfer Part Level 1) layer of the SS7 (Signaling System No. 7) protocol stack provides the physical and electrical characteristics for signaling. It operates at the data link level, handling bit-level transmission over the communication medium.
MTP1 ensures the reliable transfer of signaling messages between network nodes by managing signal encoding, synchronization, and error detection, and it is often compared to the physical layer in the OSI model.
The physical Layer uses TDM over E1/T1 Links to transfer the bits converted into electric signals over the network and it controls the link status. E1 Link has 32 time slots ( 64kb/s per channel * 32 slots = 2048 kb/s ) - Used in Europe, Asia, Middle East, and South America
T1 Link has 24 time slots - Used in the USA, Canada J1 Link - Used in Japan DS-1 V.35 DS-0 DS-0A
